Membership of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists – Andhra Pradesh (ISA-AP) is open to qualified medical practitioners and postgraduate trainees in Anaesthesiology. The classes of membership, enrollment procedure, subscription fees and conditions for cessation of membership are governed by Articles III, IV and V of the society’s bye-laws, summarised below.

Classes of Membership (Article III)

1. Honorary Members

Persons who have rendered outstanding service to Anaesthesiology and contributed in an exceptional degree to the advancement of this specialty are eligible for Honorary Membership. Names must be unanimously recommended by the Executive Committee and passed by a two-third majority in the Annual General Body Meeting. Honorary members shall not vote or hold office in the Society.

2. Ordinary Members

Medical graduates of modern medicine registered in India and holding a qualification in Anaesthesiology are eligible for Ordinary Membership, renewable every year.

All defaulter members who desire to become Life Members must first clear their arrears, so that the financial interest of the society is protected. All memberships commence from the beginning of the subscription year of the society (1st January every year).

4. Founder Members

Members of the society who assisted in its inception are recognised as Founder Members.

5. Associate Members

Medical graduates of modern medicine registered in India and interested in the practice of Anaesthesiology may be admitted by the society as Associate Ordinary or Associate Life Members. They shall not vote or hold office.

Postgraduate students in Anaesthesiology are accepted as Associate Members until qualified. Associate members enjoy all privileges and rights of Ordinary / Life members, but they shall not vote or hold office. On successful completion of their course, attested copies of the certificates along with the medical registration certificate must be sent to the society office for the regularisation of their membership.

Enrollment of Membership (Article IV)

Applications for membership (other than Honorary) shall be made on an application form obtainable from the Honorary Secretary. The form must be duly completed by the applicant, proposed and seconded by two Ordinary / Life members of the society (with their endorsement and ISA number) whose names appear on the register of the society as valid members.

Such applications are scrutinised by the Honorary Secretary and submitted to the Executive Committee, which has the right to decide eligibility and class of membership. The decision of the Executive Committee shall be final. Pending final selection, the Honorary Secretary may temporarily enroll an applicant on receipt of the application and subscription, which entitles the applicant to the privileges of his class of membership without any right of voting or attending business meetings.
